Publish to streaming platforms

Prior:

Prealable

- Check that you have the copyright (or if necessary, operating licenses) on everything that will be used for the publication (the music, the samples, the lyrics, the photo for the cover...).
- Make sure of the good production quality of your work.
- Choose your artist name carefully. The ideal is to check that it is not already used on streaming platforms like Spotify or Deezer. This will limit the risk of your posts being published on someone else's profile.

Find a distributor:

trouver

There are many distributors. You are free to choose which one you want to work with. The services offered may vary from one distributor to another. Some will ask you to pay for each publication, others will publish you without immediate payment but in return will take a percentage of your royalties, some sites will let you choose between one or the other possibility.
Personally, I use Tunecore for my solo posts and Routenote for collaborations. Routenote offers to publish your productions for 15% of your royalties if you do not pay for distribution. If you pay, you keep 100% of the royalties.
Here, I suggest you use Routenote.

Distribute music with Routenote:

- Log in to your Routenote account.
- In the menu, click on "Distribution" (in green in the image below) and choose "Create New Release" (in purple in the image below).
- On the next page, you can leave the UPC/EAN box blank if you don't have one. Routenote will create one for you.
- Enter the title of your album or your EP. If it is a Single, several possibilities:
° This is a solo production, only put the title "Title of my song". Do not specify your artist name.
° It's a collaboration, you can specify the featuring "Title of my song (feat. Artist 1, Artist 2, Artist 3)".
- Click on "Create Release".

- You arrive on your project that you will have to complete by clicking on the parts framed in green in the image below:

- By clicking on "Album Details", you will be able to fill in the general information about your release (whether it is a single, an EP or an album). The title will already be filled in, it will be up to you to fill in the appropriate information.
- If you are posting for the first time as an artist, you will need to enter the desired artist name and click on "Create a new profile" (in red in the image below). Otherwise, choose the appropriate artist profile (in green in the image below).

Albums Details

- Recently, Routenote has been asking for the real identities of composers and lyricists. It is advisable to indicate them to facilitate recognition of copyright. I don't know if this is really effective and it seems that it is optional or that it is possible to put your artist name. It's up to you... Please note that this information will be publicly visible in the credits on streaming platforms.

- Concerning the dates, for "Originally Released", I put the date of the first publication of the music (on Bandlab or YouTube). "Sales Start Date": In order to increase the chances of being in official playlists during the release, it is advisable to request a release 1 month after your request on Routenote. However, you can request an exit now. "Pre Order Date": must be before the release date if you plan a release in 1 month or more.

Tip: If you want to make sure you've chosen the correct artist profile, click the blue link under under name. A new page will open on the Spotify profile of the entered artist. If it's not the correct one, click "Remove artist" on the right and search for the correct one.

- Concernant les Copyright et "Record Label Name", personnellement, je mets mon nom d'artiste (ou en cas de collobaration, le nom de chaque artiste engagé sur le projet).

- There remains a last optional possibility (which I do not use): "Add Localizations". Here you can customize or translate certain information into another language.

- Your project is complete, you should have a summary table like the one below.
- Check one last time that everything is filled in correctly (some information will no longer be editable once distribution has been initiated.
- Check the box to accept the conditions: "
I understand and accept RouteNote's Terms and Conditions and have read through the Artist/Label Agreement".

- You have 2 options:
° "Distribute Free": you can distribute your music without paying. In return, Routenote will take part of your royalties (currently 15%).
° "Distribute Premium": distribution is chargeable. You keep 100% of the royalties.

- From now on, the Routenote teams will study your project. If all goes well, they will validate it if not, they will tell you what is not suitable.
- The default of Routenote is to take a long time to validate a project, sometimes up to 10 days. Other platforms can go much faster (but don't offer the same benefits as Routenote). Up to you !
